June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, and Capital Senior Living is joining the fight to end the disease.
From now through June 21, 2018, residents and staff at our communities around the nation are coming together to raise more than $50,000 on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association®, which provides resources and support for caregivers and those affected by Alzheimer’s.
Alzheimer’s disease affects one in 10 Americans over the age of 65, including many of the approximately 16,500 residents we serve. To honor them, their families and the caregivers who walk this journey with them every day, we will be hosting events and fundraisers around the country on June 21 as part of The Longest Day – a global movement led by the Alzheimer’s Association to raise funds and awareness to fight this devastating disease.
“It is not only our honor but our duty as those who serve the senior population to join the fight to end this awful disease,” said Lawrence Cohen, chief executive officer at Capital Senior Living. “We’re proud to team up with the Alzheimer’s Association, which provides endless support to those affected by Alzheimer’s and those who love and care for them.”
Held annually on the summer solstice, The Longest Day symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with Alzheimer’s disease along with their caregivers. This is a day of hope, where participants will engage in their favorite activities to honor a caregiver, someone living with Alzheimer’s, or someone they’ve lost to this devastating disease. Together, participants will raise funds and awareness to advance Alzheimer’s Association care, support and research programs.
Each of our communities has selected an activity it loves to honor those affected by the devastating disease. A few of the activities include karaoke nights, cupcake decorating competitions, potted plant sales, painting classes, game nights, carnivals and more.
Those are just a few examples of the exciting events our communities have planned for The Longest Day. To find information on how to get involved with a Longest Day event near you, please visit alz.org/capitalseniorliving.
